Hello! Hi! Hola! Bye! Sundra

Together with our member schools, as a Association of International Schools in Germany (AGIS), we are committed to global educational excellence, integration and equal opportunities. We are strengthening a networked and inclusive educational landscape.

For a strong international education system

As a consortium of international schools in Germany, we are committed to promoting and developing the educational and public interests of our 22 member schools. With our professional support network, we offer comprehensive help in all areas of successful management of international schools and work together to improve international education.

Charitable status and equal opportunities

The member schools of AGIS are non-profit organizations and use all income exclusively to improve the quality of teaching. Since their degrees are recognized by the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs as equivalent to German school qualifications, schools are entitled to financial support from the state under the Basic Law.

This funding makes it possible for students who have to find their way around a new education system due to their parents' professional mobility to access first-class international education and to offer them a familiar learning environment even after changing their place of residence several times. When calculating school fees, the parents' income situation up to and including a full remission is taken into account.

AGIS is committed to the replacement school status of all member schools in all federal states in order to establish equal opportunities and appreciation with all other recognized types of schools.

Social Justice and Inclusion

AGIS member schools stand for social justice and equal opportunities. In accordance with the special prohibition enshrined in the Basic Law, they guarantee access for all children, regardless of the economic situation of their families.

In addition, international schools accept children of all levels and thus promote an inclusive and equitable educational environment. Member schools only have the financial resources available to fully implement this equal opportunity through a recognized substitute school status.

Executive Board

We are committed to formulating and promoting high standards for the quality of education and ethical conduct of our members. We expect our members to commit to the same high standards and ethical conduct in their execution. Our board consists of volunteer school principals and managing directors who exemplify and support the mission and principles of AGIS.

Cultural exchange and global expertise

Active cultural exchange and thus the promotion of sustainable cultural understanding is an important part of International Schools. They bring together children from up to 65 different nations and use English as a common language in teaching. This makes a significant contribution to international understanding, even at an early age.

Depending on the school, up to 20 native languages are offered. With a holistic pedagogical approach that focuses on social skills in an increasingly global world, they offer education and integration services that government institutions cannot provide.

Continuity of education worldwide

Thanks to standardized curricula that are compatible worldwide, international schools enable a school career without loss of time and interruption of education. The IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate) offered at schools is equivalent (with specified subject combinations) to the German Abitur and entitles you to access higher education worldwide.

Preparation for an internationally recognized school leaving certificate guarantees a seamless continuation of the school career, regardless of which country the children are in. Member schools that offer the Middle Years Program (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) or the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) also ensure that students receive a degree equivalent to the middle school leaving certificate.

Working together for an inclusive society

International schools support families from abroad who live and work in Germany and German families who return from abroad by providing their children with seamless schooling and integration. Our schools are specifically tailored to the needs of these children and also offer German parents who want to educate their children in an international environment or who appreciate the educational concept a valuable educational partner. In addition, our numerous activities in member schools help families connect and find their way around their new home.
